GREEK OLYMPIA – Games for the Gods
Chariot racers at the ready! The first ancient Olympic Games can be traced back to 776 BC. They were dedicated to the Olympian gods and were staged on the ancient plains of Olympia.
Imposing temples, votive buildings, elaborate shrines in devotion to Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, Apollo, Aphrodite and the other Gods of Mount Olympus and ancient sporting facilities were combined in a site of unique natural and mystical beauty.
THE ROMAN COLOSSEUM – Gladiator Battles
The Colosseum was built with the man power of tens of thousands of slaves between 72 A.D and 80 A.D under the Emperor Vespasian, in the heart of Ancient Rome. 50,000 spectators from all tiers of Roman society, especially the aristocrats, would come to watch sporting events and games. These events included the infamous gladiatorial combats.
