Adrianna’s dance story
In 2016 we started a project called “Tell Your Dance Story” to share just some of the transformations, achievements and accomplishments of our Rio Rhythmics members.
I have danced throughout my whole life and I have been lucky enough that my family have always surrounded us with music. My mum made sure that we had opportunities to learn different forms of dancing including Ballet when I was a child, and Ballroom and Hip Hop dance classes as a teenager. When I finished school I got busy focusing on a career and let my dancing go, I would only dance at home or out clubbing.
I finally started dancing with Rio Rhythmics in June/July 2014 because my life was settling down again and I missed having somewhere to go to dance that wasn’t a nightclub. My life has changed so much since I started to dance again, I’ve met so many wonderful people who share my passion for dance! Dancing at Rio Rhythmics has brought many benefits to my life, physically, mentally and emotionally and I am never left with nowhere to go on a Friday or Saturday night!
I look forward to continually learning and improving in my dancing ability in any style and continually meeting all the new like-minded people who come to learn to dance. I am a part of the student support team and something I really love is being able to encourage and pass on my passion for dancing to the new students. There are many pieces of advice that I could give to anyone thinking of starting, but the most important thing is to allow yourself to let go. Dancing is one of the only things that is yours alone that expresses you, so it can’t be wrong. Don’t be scared! I can’t imagine a life without Rio Rhythmics now, it really is a special community to be a part of, I think of it as the Rio Family. When I dance, I am free and no matter whatever is going on, everything will be alright as long as I’m dancing.
